Today’s Performances at the Opening of the New Home of SFU’s School of Contemporary Art at Woodwards

Beautiful day out today (Saturday September 25, 2010), so I thought I’d drop a note highlighting a few of the free performances in the Cordova St Courtyard to the new home to SFU’s School of Contemporary Arts  at Woodwards in Gastown.

  • 1 pm                     Bleeding Horse Express
  • 1  – 2 pm              Public Dreams Stilt Dancers
  • 2:30 – 3 pm         Michael O’Neill: Bagpipes & Taiko Drums
  • 3 pm                    Bleeding Horse Express
  • 3  – 4 pm              Public Dreams Stilt Dancers
  • 4 – 4:30 pm         Michael O’Neill: Bagpipes & Taiko Drums

Art Exhibits Inside

And don’t be shy, there are things to see inside the School itself to:

  • 4:15 – 7:30 pm     Faculty & Alumni Multidisciplinary Presentations in dance, music, theatre, film and multi-media demos
  • Warrior Boyz, NFB Documentary
  • Arts Exhibits

Chantal Kreviazuk speaks to a recent grad and filmmaker.

I was lucky enough to attend the Opening Ceremonies for the School’s new home yesterday.  Was very inspiring!  Especially listening to the whimsical musings of Chantal Kreviazuk on being a student of the Arts and watching the enrapturing beauty of her playing.

The building will be opened from 1 – 5 pm on Sunday too, but there won’t be any performance, so be sure to get down there today.

Green Martians, Galaxy and a Foxy Chick

Imagine my shock in discovering from a Green Martian that this bubbly headed blond was more than just a sexy chickipoo with a hot accent:

Foxy Inside & Out

Naw!  For however much I love to tease Miss Lizziepoo here, I do know she is as bright as she is foxy, which is one of the reasons I love to hang out with her.  That and she takes good pictures of me.

At any rate, enjoying watching my little birdie learn to fly in the digital realm with her second Samsung Galaxy S Mob!lers Challenge.  This time Team Vansung had to brainstorm a useful App for the Galaxy S Smartphone and film their pitch in HD on their Galaxy (how cool is that).  And that they did.

Now despite having a sexy smart mind, this young fox is unlikely to out fox moi, as she has proposed the perfect App for stealth taping and uploading of the wonderful little dance numbers that Lizzie struts when she thinks no one is taping.  I will be happy to report back with such a little ditty next time I get my paws on her Galaxy.  In the meantime go ‘like’ the begeezies out of the latest Team Vansung entry (They need as much support as they can get by Sunday, as this isn’t Kindergarten and there are winners and losers, even though in my heart Lizzie will always be a winner.  Excuse me while I go gag.) and then go check out the other Mob!lers.  Their ideas are non too shabby either.

Now be off with you!  I need to sleep and am fast becoming a Miss Grouchy Pants!

Nightie Night!

“I might be a damsel, but not in distress …” ~ One More Girl

A little slow on the uptake, but I blame the weather, so what better cure than a rainy Monday tune.

So what am I slow on?  Two very sassy sisters that I first saw at the Canadian Country Music Awards last year, won the 2010 CCMA for Best Emerging Artist two weekends ago. Way to go Britt and Carly!  Well deserved!

Here they are in The Day I Fall:

Totally speaks to where I feel myself.  Love the line “I might be a damsel, but not in distress…”.  And you know, I’ve always rather fancied a cowboy.

Kisses,

Emme xoxo

Things That Make Me Go “Hmmm….?”: In the Loo

It isn’t often in life that I am caught at an utter loss for words, but this is one of them:

Best not to ask why I was in the men's washroom.

Gentlemen?  What the ….???

...and a closer view.

So many questions and disturbing visuals pop to mind:

  • Is this what you mean when you say, “I had a pissing match.”?
  • How does one play this game?
  • Whose job is it to clean this?
  • Maybe this is why I don’t get football?

Enlighten me.

Finding the Ultimate Date (and winning tickets to the opportunity)

Now I know that Timeraiser is an excellent cause designed to get people excited about volunteering, showing them some cool volunteer opportunities in their communities, promoting artists in their community … blah blah blah blah blah … and a whole pile of other do gooder shit, but let’s get down to the real reason to go to a Timeraiser Event – this is THE PERFECT VENUE for MEETING that SPECIAL SOMEONE.

Think about!!! The kind of person attracted to such an event:

  1. Appreciates art.
  2. Is into making their world look beautiful.
  3. Has a big heart.
  4. Wants to volunteer and help out in their community.

BINGO!!!! I mean, need I say more.

I know, I need not say more, but I can’t help but share a couple of visuals …

Timeraiser Vancouver Madmoiselle: Jessica Evans

Gentlemen, need you see more?

Rumour has it she’s wearing the same dress as last year, which despite fancying men, even makes me drool.

A Couple of the Artists: Rachael Ashe and Mia Weinberg

Can't attest to these gals relationship statuses gents. You'll have to do your own reconnaissance.

Madam Timeraiser Vancouver: Jen Grebeldinger

I'm afraid this one, although oh so fine, is taken gentlemen.

I’d post a few snaps of the men too, but selfishly, I’m more interested in inviting a plethora of gentlemen out and I’m guessing that the snaps above will better aid in that.

So what are the details?

The 3rd Annual Timeraiser Vancouver is on Thursday September 23rd at 7 pm at the Roundhouse Community Centre.

You can get your $20 tickets here or win a pair by commenting below with ‘your favourite volunteer experience’ or ‘why you enjoy volunteering’. I will pop the name of all whom comment in a hat and draw a name of the lucky winner at 6 pm on Tuesday September 21st.

See you on Thursday night!

Kisses,

Emme xoxo
