Cake for Dinner. Hot Dogs for Dessert. An April Fool’s Day Meal Inspired by Bob Blumer.

Seeing as it’s April Fools Day, I thought I’d share a few fun pics of concoctions of one of Brie’s and my favourite chefs, Bob Blumer, just to fire up the synapses on how you can have a bit of fun with your dinner guests this evening.

I’d try to concoct an April Fool’s Day dish and recipe of my own to share with all of you, but I’m still curled up in bed with the cat, a foggy brain and the Spring Flu.

Trying to Figure Out @BrieMason’s Lifestyle via @DussaultInc

Okay I’ll admit it.  I don’t really get the appeal of the LA lifestyle.  To visit, definitely, but to live, not really the way I roll.  I don’t get the appeal.

When I think of LA, I think of blondes with artificially manipulated features.

Now first of all, I am not blond and have no desire to bleach my hair.  Neither do I have desire for larger boobs.  That would just likely result in back problems. As for botox, facelifts … etc., I like my wrinkles.  They tell a story.  So yes, it is true, I have absolutely no desire to look like a plasticized Barbie and am somewhat critical of the LA lifestyle for producing so many life-sized plasticized Barbies.

Now with my best bud, Brie Mason having moved  to LA, I have to question whether or not I have just stereotyped the LA lifestyle, as this is definitely not her. Although we did have an argument one day about having ‘work done’. Thankful her husband, who is more LA than either of us, was on my side.  So might it be that I have been stereotyping the LA culture or do I need to pull Brie away for regular Roamancing Adventures and regular reminders of her Canadian roots (Canadiana interventions if you will, but I do hate the ‘term’ intervention)?

Like with most things, I have decided it’s best to educate myself on the culture to better understand Brie in her new habitat.  Now in the nick of time, there happens to be a Show designed just for that, with a few parallels to Brie’s world.  A Vancouver family jumping back and forth between Vancouver and LA, in their attempt to make their mark on this World.  The Show is called Dussault Inc. (about Jason Dussault, Mashiah Vaughn and their family) and is on Citytv Saturday nights at 8:30 pm.  I’ll be tuning in the hopes of gaining an enlightened understanding into Brie’s new World and the LA-Vancouver Celebrity Making Culture.

Wish me luck!

Kisses,

Emme xoxo

Roamancing in Alpha

Having Fun With My Laundry

While taking a break from my unpacking, I stumbled across this fun youtube video on the art of Japanese t-shirt folding.

I watched it over and over, trying to figure out the technique and then I found it in English!  I had an Oprah ‘AHA’ moment and realized that if I mastered this method, it might open up a whole new world of closet and drawer space.  I got out a stack of shirts to practice with and after a few hand-tangling attempts, I got the kind of praise a shirt folder longs for: “Mom! Those look just like how they display them in the stores!”

I did a little experiment to determine if my new-found art form would really make a difference.

I have to say, I was impressed.  I never thought I would catch myself having this thought, but I’m actually looking forward to doing the wash!

Decluttering On The Move

I am half way through the decluttering phenomenon known as moving. Although, if I am truly being honest with myself, I am really just getting started.  I did fail the first leg of the great challenge because we barely had enough time to pack, let alone sort, and decide what to get rid of.  It all boils down to being the kids’ fault and I’m sticking with that story! We needed to wait until the time was right to tell our children about our big move and for various circumstances, that ended up being only a few weeks before the truck was scheduled to drive off with everything. That meant our packing was in the ‘open a bin and throw everything from one shelf into it, then move on to the next’ category.  This leaves me with the daunting task of de-cluttering as I unpack.  It also leaves me sleeping in a bedroom that looks like a garage. (serves me right after teasing Emme about her clutter not too long ago.)
Unpacking

As I open each bin, I spend a good creative minute thinking about where to put the various items inside and then I set up what will fit and donate the rest.  It’s easy to disconnect yourself from your belongings when you are anxious to get settled and feel pressed for time.   I have marked one box with danger caution tape…the photo album box! I know if I open that box a whole day will be lost looking through all the old photos because an album cannot simply go from the box to a shelf.  I admit I have had some guidance from the facebook feed of the Consumed television show, since I tend to leave the house and go to the beach, using the avoidance tactic.

It’s funny how our priorities shift as we become parents.  The kids’ rooms were the first ones done and I actually believe that I am happy if they are happy.  Their summer activities combined with their need to eat, have proven to be great distractions to my own progress! Yet somehow, despite the mess all around, and the big work that still needs to be done, my daughter’s funky curtains have been hung. Funky Curtains
