Splrg this Summer

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been tweeting about @Splrg deals. Thats because the ever so sexy and savvy Megan Cole is up to some new mischief with Victoria Revay.  They are running some tests and gathering some stats, and in the process offering some on the spot deals.  I personally think its a rather nifty idea, am always interested in what the salacious Madame Cole is up to, and love the fact that it’s highlighting some local businesses.

If you want in on the deals and the testing, check out their Facebook testing ground or watch @splrg on twitter.  The next deals a doozie – FREE admission into Portobello West Market (at Rocky Mountaineer Station, 1755 Cottrell Street, just off Terminal Ave.)  this Sunday, July 26th to check out over 100 local artists and designers!  Always been meaning to check this out.

Hope to see some of you there! Just say Splrg sent you.

My Ada Lovelace

Oh my gosh!!!  I nearly forgot all about Ada Lovelace Day.  Blaming the fact that none of the clocks in my house have been changed since Daylight Savings.  Figure that means I have another hour to post, despite the date marker.

In case you haven’t heard of Ada Lovelace Day, it is a day in which we celebrate the sexy and savvy women of tech. One of the ways in which we do this is by celebrating these women on our blogs.

Why Ada Lovelace?  Well, because Augustus Ada King, the Countess of Lovelace, was the ‘first programmer’, not ‘female programmer’, but programmer period.  And she acquired this title in the mid 1800s.  Pretty gosh darn amazing!  And she was doing this programming for a machine not even yet built – the analytical engine – Charles Babbage’s early mechanical general-purpose computer.

Today, the woman I want to celebrate is Megan Cole.  I want to celebrate Megan as she was one of my initial teachers of social media (yes, shes the one to blame) and she did this so seamlessly that I didn’t even realize that I was learning or was being taught anything, for that matter.  Thank you Megan for opening my eyes to this crazy, mixed-up world of interactivity!  Your a gifted teacher!

Kim Cattrall is Sexy In Van City

Interview with Kim Cattrall at Banff World TV Festival 2008 by Megan Cole.

Some of our loyal readers will know that I had the pleasure of hearing one of the gals, who brought ‘Sex in the City‘ to life, speak in Banff last June. I know, lucky me, especially since it was the sexiest ‘Sex in the City’ gal and the one that has Canadian roots.  Yes, thats right, none other than Kim Cattrall, ‘Sex in the City’s’ Samantha. What I loved about Samantha’s character was that she was a woman that was okay with being single and walking a less conventional path.  She also exemplified sexiness, showing us that this was a quality not reserved for the young.  Well I have to say, hearing the real Kim Cattrall speak in person was no disappointment.  This woman was not only damn sexy, but smart, eloquent and witty to boot.  Really enjoyed listening to her speak.

Calling All Digital Storytellers

Was speaking with two of my favourite Van Sexies last weekend, Bridging Media gals – Megan Cole and Erica Hargreave – and they asked me to spread the word on the Women in Film Festivals New Media Award organized by Maayan Cohen and Danika Dinsmore of Women In Film and Television.  The deadline for submissions is tomorrow, Friday December 5th.

If you are using emerging technologies to tell a story and a third of of your key positions are held by women – submit!!!  It’s free and totally painless.  And if you win, it gives me yet another sexy and savvy storyteller to blog about.
