The Green Chain – Fuck Yeah!

March 8, 2009 By Emme Rogers 10 Comments

All I can say after finally seeing The Green Chain last night is ‘Fuck Yeah’! (Please note here Mark & Tony, if you’d prefer an ‘I love trees’, then get me a t-shirt)

Loved the film!  In a day and age where filmmakers have a tendency to dumb things down for their audience, assuming we have the attention spans of a gnat (probably shouldn’t say that as I don’t really know how long the gnat’s attention span is), I was pleasantly surprised to find myself pulled into a tale told by some eloquently portrayed characters that assumes that the audience is bright and sophisticated.

A truly beautiful tale of people & communities that you’ll love, even if you don’t love trees.

Don’t miss The Green Chain.  It plays at Fifth Avenue Cinemas from now until Thursday March 12th.  Today’s the last day to catch the post film Q+A with Director / Writer, Mark Leiren-Young and let me tell you, you don’t want to miss that sexy devil. Sexiness is certainly not limited to the actors in this film.

The Green Chain is playing daily at Fifth Avenue Cinema at 1:30, 4:45, 7:10 & 9:10 pm.

Stumbled upon (truly stumbled upon, not stumbledupon.com stumbled upon) this while trying to find out how things were looking for Green Chain this weekend.

Wicked movie. Saw the 7pm show on Friday. Went for drinks with friends afterwards… we were still talking about it at 1am. Went away with the GF Saturday morning, tonight on the way back to town, she was STILL musing about it. Absurd how provocative it is.

Perfectly pitched (like so many MLY penned things) so that all sides of the issue make truly valid points within it.

In a black and white world I side with the activists, yet it’s the tree-sitter in the film who I hate most and the logger and his waitress wife who I relate to best. Perhaps being raised on the spoils of the forestry industry does that to ya. But, like Ben & Jenni’s off-screen son in the film I grew up to despise what the logging industry was doing to our province.

This film has screwed me up since I first saw it, but in the best ways. In situations where the bottomline is a sea of gray the questions are far more important and valid than the answers. Maybe someday the answers will be more clear, but we’ll only get there by being forced to consider the spectrum of opinion… which Green Chain does.

Welcome home Mooty! You know I’d love to hear those sorted tales. And if you still want to see The Green Chain, let me know, as I am planning on going again while it’s still in the theatres.

Well said Kennedy! And so much more eloquently than me. I too have had my days in the forestry community and was in awe at how aptly Mark wrote all the characters voices and accurately told their stories. I love teasing Mark and occasionally bringing him back down to Earth, but he really is a truly gifted writer.

    Dearest Mooty,

Never fear. They recorded me, so adoring fans, such as yourself, could listen to it over & over & over ….again, cause I know you just can’t get enough of me. Here’s the link: http://playlist.citr.ca/podcasting/xml/juicebox.xml

On other news, The Green Chain has been held over for another week at Fifth Avenue Cinema. If you missed it, go see it before Thursday March 19th.

    Kisses,

    Emme xoxo

Sample the “Drink Me” Potion at Your Own Risk

Don't try to find a beginning or an end to this site, because there's not one. That will only cause you frustration and I don't have the money for your therapy bills. Mine are already expensive enough.
