Was making Christmas Morning Cranberry Muffins (from Muffin Mania by Cathy Prange & Joan Pauli) with Mom this morning while listening to Holiday tunes on CBC Radio, when on comes Hallelujah, a tune I quite enjoy. Mom, on the other hand made a face, not because she didn’t like the song, but as a woman was singing it and not Leonard Cohen. At which point my 60-something year old Mom tells me how sexy Leonard Cohen’s voice is singing Hallelujah. You have to have heard the way she said “SEXY”, it was like “mmm … mmm … mmm”.
So I headed to youtube to find something a little more to her liking …
I was rewarded with her pulling up a chair in front of the computer at the kitchen table, and telling me stories of how sexy Leonard Cohen’s voice was, how he’d had many a woman in his day, that she’d met him when he visited her English class to talk about poetry, and how she suspect her male English teacher had a crush on him too. As the song ended she started to tap at a picture of Leonard Cohen on the screen with her finger to get another Leonard Cohen video playing. This especially made me smile, as this was technophobic mother, trying to use my computer like her ipad (I smiled extra hard, as she loves her ipad, a device that my brother and sister tried to talk me out of buying for her – saying she wouldn’t use it. To me the fact that the ipad is so intuitive that it bridges the gap between generations with technology is brilliant.) So as she wanted to hear another, I shall give all of you another too, from more recent days …
Kisses,
Emme xoxo
