Well my friends, the fever finally broke in time to launch myself into the New Year at LPV3. Another fabulous event sponsored by Strutta, Sun, Tech Vibes, Layer7, QCDocs, and GrowthWorks. Whomever is under the misconception that techies are a bunch of computer nerds that are wall flowers at a party, hasn’t mixed it up with this group of Vancouver’s movers and shakers!
You would be hard pressed to find a sexier group of women anywhere else in Van City Friday night. And gentlemen – watch out cause this group of women doesn’t just know how to move and shake on the dance floor – they have both the brains and the brawn in this crowd. They aren’t just pretty faces – they’re gorgeous. How they were missed in TV’s Digital Media People to Watch in BC in 2008 is quite beyond me, cause this group of women are intelligent, independent, hard-working and sexy as all get out. They may still be small in numbers, but it is definitely worth an evening out to see these women move their way through the room. A few that I saw strut their way through the crowd Friday night:
- Madame Strut herself (always sexy, powerful and in demand)
- Sxipper’s Best Gal (looking as firey as ever back from her jaunt down South and just waiting to unleash her moves on the dance floor)
- The Firefly (relatively new to the crowd, but certainly not shy – she managed to pull off one mean hokey pokey for the cameras and rumour has it she was offered a house Friday night by an admirer, to which she laughed and told him he was too late, she’d already bought herself one – he rebutted by offering to buy her several)
- A rather sexy Dose of Lunacy (who was drawing the eye of many, not only from her devilish sense of style, but as a result of her antics for the cameras)
- Miss 604 (surrounded by her adoring fans as always)
- Canada’s favourite Coal Girl (forever busy and on the move, the room only just caught a glimpse of her looking far from sooty in an oh so stylish wrap)
- Vancouver’s Fashion Queen (as funny as she is stylish – forever caring for any stray garments in the crowd to make sure that they too shine)
- And of course, our very own Kittyn (who was hot on the heals of DoL hamming it up for the cameras, forever in love with the limelight – unbeknownst to her she had several compliments on her dance instruction from several men commenting on her student’s performance style – subtly utilized, of course – apparently her teachings are worth their weight in gold or $20 bills)

While at first glance you might mistake the men in this room for computer nerds, shy and cowering to the shadows – you’d be painfully wrong. The men in this room are equal to the women (and let me tell you there aren’t many men that are these women’s equals). They are not men that hide in the worlds of computers and technology, because they don’t know how to interact in the real world. These men are just as socially savvy in real life as they are in creating technology based social networking platforms. And I must say, there is many a fine dancer amongst them, not being afraid to bust a move on the dance floor. Ladies – not a bad crowd to meet a fellow – sexy, intelligent, driven men – and a lot of them. I had 4 trying to ask me out at the end of Friday night! I suppose I should ask myself why, I seemed to gently bat away their advances? A question for another day, after I’ve had a bit more sleep. Despite batting these boys away, I must say I am rather fond of them. A few that are most dear to me:

- Mr. Facebook himself (joining us after recovering from the cursed cold plaguing our country – adorable and huggable as ever and hidden behind his camera as always)

- The Not-So-Static Photographer (once this one finally remembers who you are – after being introduced at least 10 times – he is a wonderful soul to get to know – hiding a wry sense of humour, a big heart, and a loving gentleness)

- Soft Lips (I have no idea who this guy is, but he keeps showing up at different events around town and I must confess I remember him based on his lips – they’re very soft and he’s not afraid to use them – I have to admit they are a rather lovely experience – that being said – watch out for this one ladies, I think those lips found there way to Kittyn, Firefly, DoL, in addition to yours truly Friday night)
- Rubbery Duckie (always a great hugger and confidant of your hidden secrets, nearly missed Duckie Friday night as he was hopping off for an early dinner – obviously a little brighter than those of us that forgot to eat – thank you Madame Strut for your infinite wisdom and timing on the pizza)

- A Bright Guy (yet another great hugger with a caring soul – just has to watch out as he is bound to break many a young gals heart)
- The Dashing Young Playboy (this one is full of the most amusing stories and knows how to chuckle at himself, he’s primed and ready to strut his stuff, just needs to start searching for a gal closer to his own age, he’ll find one – he has a lot to offer a girl (even without trying to offer her a house) and should find one that has equally as much to offer him – maybe K?)
- Mr English (a fascinating fellow full of tantalizing ideas with the rare gift in seeing the magic in the world around him – this one admitted to certain voyeristic desires last night when it comes to watching the fairies dance at the bottom of the garden)

Aside from all the fascinating people watching at LPV3 Friday night, there were some equally interesting businesses show casing their vision. Amoungst them were the likes of Kinzin – These Are My Kids, DailySplice, TeamPages, TechVibes Startup Index, Bean Services, EQO, Sun Microsystems and Layer 7 Technologies. I have to admit that for me Kinzin really stood out – perhaps it was the beacon of their tall monitor or perhaps it was that I happened to be chatting with Canada’s Coal Girl, who is a part of the Kinzin Team. Either way Michael Fergusson‘s brainchild, Kinzin – These Are My Kids really spoke to me. Basically Kinzin is a private social networking site for families where they can share photos, videos and stories and make their own scrap books and albums. A site designed to use technology to bring families closer together rather than separate them. Brilliant Michael and long overdue!

I did enjoy it! And also found Saturday morning to be a little rough. That damn young playboy kept handing out shots towards the end of the evening. Suppose I should question my better judgement for continuing to drink them.
Great photos by the way Duane! Thank you!
Emme says
You don’t remember much of the night do you? What happened to “I am only having one drink tonight.”?
Oh – the stories I could tell you! Probably best that they are all blacked out.
Emme says
Oh you were definitely there.
Emme says
9 AM Saturday morning?
Duane Storey says
Glad you enjoyed the event! There was a great turn out, and it was tons of fun. Saturday morning was a bit rough though 🙂

There’s the charm that you can’t help but love, once you get beyond the “Hi! I’m Kris! And you are?”
At least your sexier half always remembers me, but then hers and my first meeting was quite a memorable night!
Lyal says
There were free shots?!
Emme says
Thanks for the accolades Madame Strut! I don’t know that I can take the credit for bringing sexy back though – the women of Launch bring sexy to any room they’re in – yourself included.
Lyal says
I’m retracting. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t there.
Lyal says
Pretty sure you’ve got the wrong guy… I was attending a box social on Friday. I’m hazy on details, but I’m also quite certain I was in bed by 9.
kk+ says
it’s less that i don’t remember you and more that i just enjoy meeting you and over and over again for the first time….
*runs and hides*

I am sure people know who you are (or think they do) and I have my suspicions but the fun is also in not knowing. Don’t ever tell.
Emme says
I don’t know where all the mystery is coming from. Apparently I must not be all that memorable a person. It obviously is not only the Not-So-Static Photographer that can’t remember meeting me. Oh well – I am glad to give you kids something to talk about.
Emme says
It shouldn’t be too hard to ascertain who he is Jordan. Just pucker up and work your way through all the men that were there Friday night. With that work ethic, it shouldn’t take you too long. I have faith in you!
Jordan says
Thanks a lot, Emme.
I mean, I have a lot to do. A LOT. The last thing I need is to be sitting here trying to solve all of these riddles on such a busy day…
I’ve got many of them figured out, but there are still some question marks…I’m determined to get to the bottom of this though. Before the day is through, I WILL know who soft lips is…
Duane, is it you??
Emme says
Thank you Michael! As I said above – I love what you are creating! I hope the CBC interview went well!
