Celebrating my Birthday in Bliss with the Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival and Matt Andersen

August 5, 2014 By Emme Rogers Leave a Comment

I’ll admit it, I feel somewhat spoiled.  Why?  Because for the last half a decade, my birthday festivities have been the Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival!  I mean really, what more could a gal ask for?  Honestly?!? Both the Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival and Matt Andersen!!!   And ‘as it’s my birthday and I can cry if I want to’, that I shall!  Cry a thank you to Denis, that is!  As not only am I getting the Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival for my birthday this year, but I am getting the Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival and Matt Andersen this Saturday, August 9th!!!

You see my buddy Denis is a very wise man, as well as a great connoisseur of the arts and more specifically of the blues.  So when he first invited  Matt Andersen to the Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival, a number of years ago, as a smaller act at the time, he knew he had a great bluesman!  So now he has invited Matt back as one of the main acts of the day, putting me in a blissful state.  This would only be topped by Matt playing with Ross Neilsen at the Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival!  Then I’d be purring!

In the meantime, I have a bit of a thing for East Coast mining songs … maybe I secretly fantasize after the Men of the Deeps … so thinking this will help to send me to bed smiling …

So as the story goes, myself and my buddy Rob Jones (of Delete Bin fame) were introduced to Matt Anderson and his music at one of our first years at the Burnaby Blues and Roots Festivals, and were instantly smitten!  Fast forward about a year and a half and I stumble upon some scruffy musicians making fun of my blatant eavesdropping over lunch (at 4 pm) in a small Northern Ontario Village, which instantly endears Ross Neilsen to me.  Seeing him play live for the first time, made me a life long fan of his, and from our encounters on the road together, I hope a live long friend; which all made it extra cool, when I discovered he and Matt can often be found playing together when they are both in New Brunswick at the same time. So you see why that would be the ultimate in Birthday Party bliss for me. Oh well … I suppose I should leave something for Denis to strive towards on a future birthday … but still gosh darn it, I’ll cry if I want to!!! (she says digging in her heels and pouting)

Take it away Matt and Ross!

Sample the “Drink Me” Potion at Your Own Risk

Don't try to find a beginning or an end to this site, because there's not one. That will only cause you frustration and I don't have the money for your therapy bills. Mine are already expensive enough.
