Oh Thank Goodness. Emma is Still a Kid on Christmas Day, Not a Leiren-Young Alien.

Oh thank Goodness, she is a normal kid after all:

That said, clearly her musical tastes cannot be left in her uncle’s hands.  Mark – she’s coming to the Burnaby Blues & Roots Festival with Rob and I this summer. Justin Beiber!?!  Really that’s what you’re exposing her to?  Clearly it’s time Rob Jones and I start her music education on the indie scene.

Honouring the Middle Child: Doug Paisley

I’ve long had a theory on the middle child:

  • that we are a special lot that beat to our own drum,
  • that we tend not to take life quite so seriously and harbour a bit of a rascally streak, and
  • that we are forever (at least in our formative years) getting into trouble, usually for not conforming (oh hell, who am I kidding, I’m still getting in trouble).

It makes sense after all, as the middle child is often left to choose their own path, and when parents get busy, is often the one left to their own devices, as they are not the first one representing the clan, nor are they the baby that needs coddling.  For me this was certainly true, and despite it getting me into a lot of trouble as a kid (in my head I can still hear the *crash* followed by the inevitable “Emme”), being the middle child is a big part of what’s given me the confidence, independence and strength to follow my dreams and blaze my own path in life.

Tonight, I feel I am celebrating a victory for the middle child, as I was introduced to a childhood friend all over again through his music tonight:

To me Doug Paisley (or Douglas as I called him) was a fellow middle child comrade-in-arms growing up.  We were both somewhat mischievous dreamers that were not always understood and often in trouble . We were unique and walked to our own drums, no matter what anyone said.  I don’t know if I ever told Douglas this, but I loved him and respected him for it.  And because the boy had talent, gumption, and resilience, he’s now one QTV and singing with Feist!

Way to go Douglas!  I’m so proud of you!

Mid Week Pantie Choir

If you’re like me and working too damn hard on a Tuesday following a long weekend (why is it that after a long weekend I always feel the need to try and fit in 6 days of work into 4?), then you’re in desperate need to jump, jive and wail and shake up some sillies.  And really what better way is there to do that, then to sing along with Little Miss Higgins and the folks of Hornby Island to Bargain Shop Panties:

So don’t be shy!  Start prancing around in those Bargain Shop Panties.  I am sure no one in the office will mind.  Hell, if I were in your office I’d be hooting and hollering and encouraging you on.

Kisses,

Emme xoxo

PS. Oh and remember your Little Miss Higgins Pantie Choir, so belt it out loud.

PPS. So loving the 2010 Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival for introducing me to this gal and her bargain shop panties.

Summer Time Blues

I got me the blues.  Some summer time blues.

Only one remedy for some hot, smokey weekend summer time blues.  Yep, you guessed it – a weekend all about ME with plenty of indulgence.  Let’s just call it my belated birthday bash(es) with the Burnaby Blues and Roots TODAY and The Lilac Tree Has Been Hacked to the Ground Film Festival.

Now take it away Little Miss Higgins

A Rainy Day Pursuit for the Young Whipper Snappers

Seeing as it is a rainy day and I am lazily lounging about it my PJs, I thought I’d deliver a public service announcement to all the young whipper snappers out there.

Samsung Mobile Canada has quite a cool competition on the go for 30 young mobile enthusiasts in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.  Basically, they are giving out a brand new smartphone and service, and sending them to capture the best concerts and events this summer and fall in their city (ex. TIFF, Lady Gaga in Vancouver, etc.).  And the fun doesn’t stop there as there will be cash prizes and an online expense paid trip to Korea for a few lucky ‘mob!lers’. The deadline is fast approaching though, applications close this Wednesday August 11, 2010, so don’t you young whipper snappers be diddle daddling.

Alas, I am not eligible as this competition is only for 19 – 30 year olds out there.  I guess it is only fair to leave some of the fun to the young ‘uns.

… never fear though … for the non-whipper snappers amoungst us – old Dickie Gustin, Mr. Jones, Brie and I – are aheading for some old school blues and roots this coming weekend.  Now to set the mood, some blues from a 2010 Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival Headliner, Kenny Wayne Shepherd:

Kisses,

Emme xoxo
